Deep discharge
State in which a cell is fully discharged using low current, so that the voltage falls below the final discharging voltage.

Degassing
Release of charge gases from the cell openings provided (plug, valve, gas duct).

Density, nominal (specific weight of the electrolyte)
The nominal density of the electrolyte is a value specified by the manufacturer for a nominal temperature and normal electrolyte filling level in the cell.

Die-casting machine
1. Machine for the production of Polypropylene battery cases and covers.
2. Machine for the production of positive tubular grids with spines.

Dipping
Short immersion of freshly pasted plates in dilute sulphuric acid.

Discharge depth
The capacity drawn from a battery divided by the rated battery capacity and expressed as a percentage (e.g. 50% discharge depth for a battery with a rated
capacity of 50 Ah means that a capacity of 25 Ah is drawn).

Discharging
Drawing electrical energy from a battery in which chemical energy is converted into electrical energy. Discharging is the opposite of >> charge.

Discharging current
Drawing current strength of a battery. It can be expressed in absolute (in amperes) or relative terms (as a fraction for multiple of the C current strength).

Discharging voltage, average (U*m)
The average discharging voltage is the average value of the discharging voltage during the entire discharging process with a related discharging current.

Dry charge oven
Equipment or the production of dry charged plates.

Dry charged battery
A dry battery with the plates in an essentially fully charged state and able to deliver a current, when filled with electrolyte.

Drying
Removal of water from pasted plates.
